In the mid-1970s, writer/producer/director/actor Frederick R. Friedel went to North Carolina to film a pair of enigmatic yet startling low-budget thrillers - AXE and KIDNAPPED CO-ED - only to see them both presumed lost to shady dealings, sudden tragedies, moral outrage and drive-in oblivion.
In AXE, depraved killers on the run hold a young woman and her invalid grandfather hostage in an isolated farmhouse.
In KIDNAPPED CO-ED, the teenage daughter of a wealthy family forms a perverse relationship with her abductor. Once thought doomed to drive-in obscurity, fans and grindhouse historians have begun to compare Freidel's films to those of David Lynch and Terrence Malick, and now the complete story behind this strange journey can finally be told.
Severin Films is proud to present both features restored from their original negatives, plus BLOODY BROTHERS, Friedel's recut of the two features as one twisted crime epic called BLOODY BROTHERS, and loaded with exclusive Bonus Features that reveal the startling saga behind the casts, crews, disastrous fate and surprising rediscovery of these nearly forgotten grindhouse/arthouse classics - the ultimate look at one of the most fascinating sagas in indie exploitation history!

“Bite School” is a film that I’ve been looking forward to seeing since hearing about it. The film is about a rich playboy (James Balsamo), who is forced to go back to school to get his GED when his grandfather (Herschell Gordon Lewis) takes away his money and leaving him penniless. If matters weren’t even worse, he has to deal with a vampire cult who is bent on world domination and gang of girls who are out for money. Can he find a way to stop them all and get his GED before it’s too late. The film features appearances from Ron Jeremy (The Boondock Saints), Butch Patrick (The Munsters), John Dugan (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Sarah French (Terror Overload), Ophelia Rain (Return to Nuke Em high Vol 2) and Jasmine St Clair.
I had a fun time with “Bite School”. Writer/star/director James Balsamo does a very good job making sure that this is a fun film to watch. One of the things that he does well was to make sure the film moved along. Whether it was in the screenplay process to how make the scenes work onscreen, it was done in a way that there wasn’t too many dialogue scenes that slowed the film down. When it slowed down a bit, at least I got a little information on the characters so that I had a basic idea who they are. It made the characters interesting enough to make them work in the overall contest. Balasmo also does a good job with the way that he and his effects team handle the film’s effects. Even though they looked cheap, they are able to put out some effective gore effects. It helped with making some of the blood curling scenes work.
The other thing that I liked so much was the way the humor worked in the film. Whether it was the scenes that Balsamo directed or his performance, they were a good amount of laughs to find here. He makes sure in the screenwriting process makes sure the humor is timed well and funny enough that it makes you laugh and enjoy this. It allows the tone of the film to have a fun cheesy feel to it.
If you’re looking for a serious vampire film with plot, forget about it as you won’t find it here. But if you’re looking for a fun time with gory effects, out of control humor and beautiful women then “Bite School” is the film for you to spend your late night with.

When I first heard about “Felt”, I was interested in it because what I heard about the film and all the reviews that this was getting. Still, I didn’t know if I would like this given that nature of this film. But I ultimately wanted to this because I haven’t done a buzz worth micro budget film in a while.
The film is about a woman (Amy Everson) who is struggle to live life in a male dominated society. She begins to act out these strange fantasies by herself. One day, she meets a man who seems like a good person and starts to open up to her. But she starts to become vulnerable and her dark secret and other side of her threatens to explode and become violent. Going into “Felt” I didn’t know what I was going to expect given its trailer and the buzz around the film. I still wanted to check this out anyway after hearing the praise of this film from various sites. I was glad that I checked this film out, as this is one of the more disturbing films that I’ve seen all year.
The reason that this film works so well here was the directing of Jason Banker. This could’ve a been one of those films that I could’ve been bored but he does a great job making sure the film has a disturbing feel to it. Whether it’s the way the film was shot to how he makes the scenes work in his direction, everything had a raw and different feel to it. It helped project the tone for what the film was going for. It’s something that grabs your attention, as I was interested in this throughout. The other thing that Banker does very well is get a great performance from actress Amy Everson. You couldn’t tell that this was her first film in a lead role. Banker does a very good job making sure Everson makes her character very demented through her actions and the way she delivers her dialogue. It helped make the character interesting and kept my interest in the main character and story.
The screenplay written by Banker and Everson was very good. One of things that makes this screenplay good was the way that they both focused on the main characters state of mind. Whether it’s the way the character interacts with other characters to how she ends up acting on her fantasies, everything focuses on her mindset. It helps give the character its demented and delusional traits that is needed for a character like this. The other thing that makes it good was the screenplay’s ability to generate some sort of reaction. It’s hard to do this with films of this nature when they’re scenes where the character is standing around. It works here, because it’s focusing and gives more insight on the main character and it builds the story and character right up until its shocking and abrupt ending. Speaking of that, this is the most horrifying end to a horror film this year and it’s a credit to how the writers approach the main character and the story of the film.
This will be one of the most shocking films that you’ll see all year. With its great directing from Jason Banker and great performance from Amy Everson, “Felt” is one of the best films I’ve seen so far this year.
